Lyricism of the Times: "Crescent" Lecture and Forum Series I

Beijing Inside-Out Art Museum
Interim Meeting” is a project initiated by the Academic Department of Beijing Inside-Out Art Museum, including writing, lecturing and publishing. The original intention of launching this project is to consider the present time as an object of continuous dialogue and identification, and to repeatedly view the growing and changing trends inside and outside the art industry. With our attention to the complexity of our time and to the recurrent state of urgency and anxiety, we hope that, through this project, we can inspire actions and discussions in the art and culture industry to face up to the realities. “Interim Meeting” extends invitations to all the cultural practitioners who insist their sincere and multi-dimensional works in their respective fields; it focuses its attention on the work that has been carried out at the crossroads of the political discourse and the time frame; and it keeps an alert mind towards the wavering positions and the inexperienced and untested discussions. Discussions that are subject to thought and practice tests remain vigilant. This project will take place without a fixed schedule. We will invite active artists, young writers and researchers in the fields of art and culture to the Inside-Out Art Museum to share their work with us.

Interim Meeting
Lyricism of the Times: "Crescent" Lecture and Forum Series I

“Lyricism of the Times: 'Crescent' Lecture and Forum Series” is a series of public and educational programs to take place during the exhibition period of the exhibition, Crescent: Retrospectives of Zhao Wenliang and Yang Yushu. Based on the curatorial statement addressing the characteristics of “lyricism” and “aestheticism” of fine arts practice during the socialist period, this series of public programs invite researchers and practitioners from the field of art and literature to share their research on aesthetics, art history, and contemporary cultural studies in their respective fields. By investigating and sharing the formation of the dominant aesthetic and artistic framework, the process of its dissipation and the cracks and gaps that arise in the process, we hope to explore the interactions between the authoritative framework and the creative consciousness of art practitioners, so as to understand how and to what extent such interactions were adhered and embedded into the times. The work of these researchers and artists is based on their studies on the ideological trends and changing discourses in the Republic of China, the socialist period, and the post-socialist period, which will inspire us to carefully explore our relationship with the past and present from the multidimensional perspectives of individualism, ideology, and archeology.
